Hepatitis C Myth Busting

May is designated as Hepatitis Awareness Month in the United States, providing 31 days to raise awareness of viral hepatitis in the United States.

We’re here to help clear up myths about Hepatitis C.

Learn the facts:

You cannot get Hepatitis C from your own syringe. Hepatitis C does not form from dried blood. It must come from the blood of someone who is Hepatitis C-positive.

Hepatitis C is not transmitted through sharing drinks, food items, or utensils.

Hepatitis C is not transmitted in public bathrooms or through touching contaminated objects.

Hepatitis C is transmitted from blood to blood. Avoid sharing syringes, razors, toothbrushes, or other items that can cut, scratch, or abrade the skin.

Hepatitis C can be sexually transmitted, but not as easily as HIV and other STIs.

Hepatitis C is treatable with medication, and most people can be cured in weeks.
