During its 25+ year history, Northern Nevada HOPES (HOPES) has grown from serving a handful of patients to caring for more than 14,000 in 2023. Many of our patients are uninsured, unhoused, living in poverty, or otherwise marginalized, with no other access to care. When the needs of our community began to outpace our capacity to care for these folks, we knew we had to grow.
Our new clinic on East 4th Street, The Jerry Smith Community Wellness Center, is the solution our community needs. It will expand our ability to provide comprehensive health care, including primary care, mental health care, substance use treatment, harm reduction, case management, and patient education. With this added capacity, we will eventually be able to care for an additional 12,000 people each year.
Can you help open our clinic doors with a donation?
We are mission-driven to tackle this challenge, but we need your help. As a non-profit community health resource, we depend on donors to help fund our services. Our generous donors, including an astounding $6 million unsolicited gift from MacKenzie Scott, have provided the funding to finish building the clinic, but we need additional funds to help operate it.
A legacy of caring for underserved people
Northern Nevada faces a critical shortage of healthcare services. There are wait lists for primary care, behavioral health, and psychiatry services — all crucial to HOPES’ diverse client base.
Thanks to all of our generous donors and partners, this new 43,000-square-foot clinic will enable us to expand adult primary care services, chronic disease prevention, and case management services. We will be able to grow our behavioral health program, including group therapy, psychiatry, and our Intensive Outpatient Program for those requiring a higher level of mental health support.
We’ve secured this location in an area of our community where there are currently no health services. This ensures we can continue to provide accessible care and meet our patients exactly where they are – both today and in the future. We know that quality, affordable health care is critical to better outcomes for all people – and your generosity empowers us to provide that with dignity, compassion, and most of all, hope.
