March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness month!
According to the CDC, the most effective way to reduce your risk of colorectal cancer is to get screened routinely.
HOPES medical providers work with patients to provide different testing options, including a Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) or a referral for a colonoscopy. FIT tests are non‑invasive, can be completed at home, and only need to be done once a year. All we ask is that our patients return their test card to our lab.
When a patient needs a more in‑depth screening, HOPES works with the patient and provides referrals to a payment‑assistance program or a health care center. Routine colonoscopies can help detect polyps, which can be removed during the procedure before they turn into colorectal cancer. When colorectal cancer is found in its early, localized stage, the five‑year relative survival rate is 91%.
If you are a HOPES patient and interested in getting screened, talk to your provider about which test is best for you.
