HOPES Receives Million Dollar Gift for LGBTQ+ Care

Northern Nevada HOPES Receives $1 Million Donation from Dr. Barry Frank and Family for LGBTQ+ Patients

Dr. Barry Frank and his family donated $1 million to Northern Nevada HOPES to expand care and services to the organization’s adult LGBTQ+ patients. The funds will expand HOPES’ Gender and Sexual Healthcare Clinic and be used for matching gifts for HOPES’ Give OUT Day fundraising campaign in June 2023 and 2024.

Dr. Frank has been a pillar in our community for years and in 2020 he came to HOPES with a vision to help LGBTQ+ patients access services not typically provided at our health center, creating the Gender and Sexual Healthcare Clinic. Services provide through the clinic include surgery support, legal assistance, voice coaching, cosmetic services, and behavioral health support.

Through Dr. Frank’s generosity, individuals and families have been able to access life-changing care since the Gender and Sexual Healthcare Clinic opened.

I was desperately trying to find resources for my transgender daughter who was having addiction and dysphoria issues. The HOPES community was so accepting and gracious, but more importantly they were kind. HOPES gave my daughter and myself “hope” when we were lost, scared, and confused. It truly is a special place.” – Valerie, HOPES Patient

“HOPES does so much for so many and I’m just glad to be a part of that,” said Dr. Barry Frank. “It gives me great pleasure to support HOPES. It’s the ultimate win-win.”

The need in our community for these services is growing and in 2021 alone, HOPES served 356 trans-identifying patients and 1,025 patients who self-identity as LGBTQ+. Since opening the Gender and Sexual Healthcare Clinic, 69 patients have utilized services like voice coaching, gender-affirming surgery, hair removal and legal services.

“Dr. Frank’s dedication to HOPES’ mission and ensuring all individuals have access to life-changing care is humbling and awe-inspiring,” said Mandi Larsen, chief development officer at HOPES. “This transformational gift will ensure that for many years to come, HOPES will continue to build on the foundation of the Gender and Sexual Healthcare Clinic and be a safe and accepting place for all individuals seeking gender-affirming care.”

Dr. Frank’s generosity has given help and hope to LGBTQ+ individuals and families throughout northern Nevada. Thank you, Dr. Frank.
