Northern Nevada HOPES is celebrating its 25th Anniversary of providing medical care, behavioral health care and wrap-around services to patients no one else would, in a way no one else could. While HOPES has been in our community for decades, its expansion to provide primary care and serve more individuals and families has occurred under the leadership and direction of HOPES’ Board President, Doug Brewer.
Doug’s approach to leadership is similar to HOPES’ approach to patient care. Doug is kind, welcoming, listens, and works collaboratively to solve problems and plan for the future health of the organization and HOPES’ patients.
Over the last decade, under Doug’s leadership, HOPES has expanded its role in providing care to the northern Nevada community from serving 600 HIV positive patients annually, to over 12,000 individuals and families today. Not only have patient numbers increased, so have services. HOPES’ care is comprehensive, focusses on reducing barriers to access and ensuring our team is focusing on the whole health and well-being of our patients, not just their medical care.
As board president, Doug sees possibility. Doug was a member of the board who saw the possibility in Sharon Chamberlain, HOPES’ CEO. He saw possibility in Sharon’s vision of expanding services into primary care and trusted Sharon and the HOPES team to not only bring the expansion to fruition but grow the organization into the regional healthcare leader it is today.
HOPES has accomplished a lot over the last 25 years, becoming a Federally Qualified Health Center, opening the Stacie Mathewson Wellness Center in 2015, remodeling the clinic to expand primary care and behavioral health services in 2017, opening Hope Springs, our regions first bridge housing community for individuals experiencing homelessness, and most recently, opening the first Intensive Outpatient Program for individuals with Medicaid or without insurance.
Through each step of expanding care, Doug’s focus has first and foremost been on ensuring the most underserved individuals in our community have a medical home where they feel seen.
Doug exemplifies our values of kindness, dignity, anti-discrimination, creative and adaptability, guiding our work as we persevere to ensure our patients have access to the care they need and depend on, and that each staff member feels respected and appreciated.
As HOPES looks to expand our clinical footprint to ensure more Nevadans have access to cutting edge, personalized, innovative care, we’re grateful to have Doug’s guidance and steady leadership at the helm.
