Please read before bringing medicines to the Clinic or Pharmacy. We cannot take back unused or expired medicines. This includes medicines that were given to you at HOPES. This rule helps keep patients, staff, and the clinic safe.
What You Can Do Instead
There are safe ways to get rid of old medicines. You can take medicines to a drug drop box. These are safe and free.

At-Home Medicine Disposal:
If you cannot get to a drop box, you can safely throw medicine away at home.
- Mix the medicine with something that tastes bad, like: coffee grounds, dirt, or kitty litter.
- Put it in a sealed bag and throw it in the trash.
Do not flush medicines down the toilet (unless the medicine label tells you to).
Drug Take Back Day
The DEA has special days to collect old medicines. These events are safe and easy to use. (No needles or sharps.)
