Northern Nevada HOPES (HOPES) is thrilled to announce the launch of its groundbreaking Maternal Health Program for pregnant women engaged in substance use, set to open in July 2025. This initiative is made possible by a generous $708,092 donation from UnitedHealthcare Health Plan of Nevada Medicaid, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to enhancing maternal and infant health services in the region.
This significant investment will expand access to critical maternal and infant health services, including prenatal, postpartum, behavioral health, and pediatric care, with a dedicated focus on supporting mothers with substance use issues to ensure the health of both baby and mom. By addressing the unique needs of these mothers, the program aims to improve outcomes for families across Washoe County.
“Our partnership with UnitedHealthcare is vital in expanding life-saving maternal care,” said Dr. Faith Whittier, Chief Medical Officer at HOPES. “As our country faces higher rates of maternal and infant risks, we’re thrilled to deliver this support to those who need it most.”
The CDC reports that the U.S. has the highest rate of maternal mortality among high-income nations, with BIPOC women facing the most significant risks. This donation addresses these disparities by supporting access to comprehensive care for preventable conditions like gestational diabetes, preterm labor, and preeclampsia.
