AIDS 2014 conference wrap up

By July 25, 2014 August 9th, 2019 Blog

The AIDS 2014 conference in Melbourne, Australia ended today. Dr. Carl Dieffenbach from the National Institutes of Health provided a final wrap up of the weeklong convention:

Dr. Dieffenback reflected on the theme of the conference “stepping up the pace” as HIV/AIDS researches focused on preventative efforts to stop the spread of the infection with new drugs like pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

Another idea prevalent at the convention was the need to focus on the “hotspots” of the epidemic in terms of both geography and population to truly bring the number of new infections down to zero.
